| Trondheim is the third largest city in Norway, with 160.000 inhabitants in the city proper. The Trondheim Region has 246.700 inhabitants.Trondheim was founded in 997 by Viking King Olav Trygvasson. A 18-metre (58-foot) high statue of the King stands at the centre of the town square. The city is today a centre of education, technical and medical research, with 25.000 students.
