Dining in Trondheim

Despite its relatively small size (approx. 160 000 inhabitants), Trondheim hosts numerous restaurants of a standard which surpasses those of cities likely to be compared. Surely, Trondheim has its amount of westernized Chinese cuisine, all adapted to the somewhat inexperienced Norwegian palates. There is also an international scene comprising of Japanese, Vietnamese, Spanish and Italian restaurants. The last few years have seen several quality restaurants emerging.

Top notch food with French and Italian inspirations. Credo has an unpretentious atmosphere with (for Norwegian standards) reasonable prices. Set menus based on available local produce (including exquisit seafood) and its freshness.

• Emilies et spisested Erling Skakkes gt 45 Ph. (+47) 73 92 96 43

Small restaurant located opposite the regional Theatre, named after the chef’s daughter. Emilies surely belongs among Trondheim’s top five restaurants. Set menus and a-la-carte dining, the restaurant is known for surprising its guests with small gastronomy delights in between dishes.

A relatively new restaurant with an excellent reputation. Takes pride in using superb local produce with Mediterranean approach. Has one of the best and well-stacked bars in Norway. The co-owner is a former world-champion in cocktail mixing.

• Fem bord Dronningensgate 37 Ph. (+47) 45 48 88 89

Literally “Fem bord” translates to five tables – the actual capacity of the restaurant. Consistently serving an eight course menu, this newcomer aims high without (yet) touching the standard of the above mentioned Credo. Still worth a try with excellent service.
