The main mission for the Regional Centre for Palliative Care Education and Research – Central Norway is to improve treatment of patients, develop the discipline and clinical skills in palliative care within the region. Therefore the centre has a counselling role and works closely in collaboration with regional health authorities, seven hospitals and numerous local councils. We intend to spread knowledge through education and training, seminars and conferences. The Regional Centre for Palliative Care Education and Research has close ties with the Palliative Medicine Unit (PMU), Dept. of Oncology, St Olav University Hospital, as most of the knowledge and experience we possess and teach is derived from the unit’s internationally acclaimed medical staff and researchers.

Furthermore, the centre intends to become a vital resource for all employees and researchers at the Institute of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine (NTNU) and society as a whole as we can contribute with guidance, information and expertise. Our objective is still that the majority of our activities must be proactive.

Top-notch research derives from the PMU, Dept. of Oncology, St Olav University Hospital. It is our task to keep an updated list of international conferences and journals where this research is published. We can also assist with literature search, proofreading and English academic writing skills.

Currently the centre employs one consultant/coordinator with a research background, one doctor with ten years experience from the PMU and one administrative assistant.
